Frangipani Essential Oil
Frangipani Essential Oil
Frangipani Essential Oil (Plumeria alba)
Frangipani (Plumeria alba), also known as Champa, is steam-distilled from the flowers and leaves of the tree, sourced from India, producing a thin, yellow to brown liquid with a rich, sweet, exotic floral aroma. Its intense, complex character means only small amounts are needed for a noticeable fragrance.
Widely valued in perfumery for its luxurious, sensual scent, Frangipani is often used to bring warmth and depth to floral fragrance blends and to create a calming, indulgent atmosphere when diffused. Its soft floral character also makes it a popular choice in spa-style massage oils, bath products and other luxurious self-care blends.
This one deserves a little extra care: Frangipani Essential Oil is a skin irritant and skin sensitiser, and causes serious eye damage. Always dilute well before topical use and patch test first. Avoid all contact with the eyes, and keep away from children.

Uses ▼
Fine fragrance & perfumery
A classic component in floral perfumery, Frangipani lends a rich, exotic warmth to fragrance blends — its intensity means only a small amount is needed.
Diffuser & relaxation blends
A drop or two in a diffuser creates a calm, indulgent atmosphere, making it a favourite for evening wind-down rituals and moments of quiet relaxation.
Spa & massage products
Well diluted in a carrier oil, Frangipani makes a luxurious addition to massage oils, bath products and other spa-style self-care blends.
Blends Well With
| Although essential oils blend well with one another, Frangipani oil goes particularly well with other essential oils such as bergamot, chamomile, frankincense, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, neroli, patchouli, rose, sandalwood and ylang ylang. |
Usage & Formulation Guide ▼
For soap makers, natural perfumers and cosmetic formulators. These are starting points, not finished formulas — always confirm compliance, stability and safety (including IFRA usage limits) for your own finished product before use.
Fine Fragrance & Perfumery Accord
Frangipani is a rich, heady floral heart note — try it at 2-5% of the fragrance concentrate as the centrepiece of a tropical floral accord alongside Ylang Ylang and Jasmine, or blended with Sandalwood and Patchouli for a warmer, more sensual base.
Skincare & Massage Oil Inclusion Rate
Frangipani is a skin sensitiser and causes serious eye damage, so keep leave-on skincare to around 0.5-1% of the total formulation, well below the generous IFRA limits for most categories. Always patch test the finished blend and keep well away from the eye area.
Aromatherapy & Diffuser Blend
For a calming evening blend, try 2 drops Frangipani with 2 drops Lavender and 1 drop Bergamot; for a warm, exotic floral blend, combine 2 drops Frangipani with 1 drop Ylang Ylang and 2 drops Grapefruit.
Cold-Process Soap
Frangipani performs well in cold-process soap at 1-2% of total oil weight, given its intense character, producing a rich, exotic floral bar. Anchoring the blend with a base note such as Sandalwood or Patchouli helps carry the scent further through cure.
