Balsam (Peru) Essential Oil 100% pure
Peru Balsam Essential Oil (Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae)
Peru Balsam (Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae) is a co-distilled resin oil with a warm, sweet, vanilla-like balsamic aroma, valued for centuries in perfumery, skincare and traditional medicine.
With natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and fungicidal properties, it's well suited to chapped or sensitive skin, eczema, rashes, itching and minor wounds, and blends easily into creams, ointments and balms.
As an expectorant, Peru Balsam is useful for coughs, colds, sore throats and bronchitis, and its warming action helps stimulate circulation, making it a good addition to blends for rheumatic aches and pains.
Its rich, vanilla-like character also makes it a popular, affordable base note in natural perfumery, while its comforting aroma can help ease nervous tension and stress when diffused.

Blended in a cream
Well diluted in a cream or balm, Peru Balsam's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it useful for chapped or sensitive skin, eczema, minor wounds and irritation.
Blends Well With
| Peru Balsam oil blends well with patchouli, petitgrain, rose, sandalwood and ylang ylang. |
Usage & Formulation Guide ▼
For soap makers, natural perfumers and cosmetic formulators. These are starting points, not finished formulas — always confirm compliance, stability and safety (including IFRA usage limits) for your own finished product before use.
Fine fragrance / oriental-amber base
Average use is around 2.5% in a perfume compound, though IFRA's Category 4 (fine fragrance) limit works out to roughly 0.41% in the finished product. Pairs classically with Benzoin and Labdanum for an amber base, with sweetness fine-tuned using vanillin or ethyl vanillin.
Cold process soap
Used sparingly (well under the fragrance-compound average above) as a fixative to anchor other top notes. Peru Balsam is one of the most well-documented fragrance allergens in patch-testing panels, so keep the rate modest and always test the finished bar.
Leave-on skincare
Given how consistently Peru Balsam triggers positive patch-test reactions in sensitised individuals, most formulators treat it as a fragrance/fixative material rather than a leave-on active. If it's included in a cream or balm at all, keep it to a token level and check the current IFRA Category 5 (leave-on) limit rather than working from a general skincare percentage.
