Palo Santo Essential Oil (Bursera graveolens)
Palo Santo Essential Oil (Bursera graveolens) is steam distilled from the aged heartwood of the tree, ethically wildcrafted from naturally-fallen wood sourced in Ecuador. The result is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a woody, sweet, fruity-balsamic, resinous aroma and citrus undertones, long treasured as "holy wood" for ritual and meditation use.
Traditionally, Palo Santo has been burned or diffused to help clear the air and set a calm, grounding atmosphere, much like the smudging practices associated with White Sage. Belonging to the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as Frankincense and Myrrh, it shares a similarly deep, resinous character.
In aromatherapy, Palo Santo is valued for its centering, calming qualities, making it a popular choice for meditation, mindfulness practices and relaxing diffuser blends.
