ECO Candle Wicks (All Sizes) (Cotton and Paper Wicks for Candle Making)
Our ECO wicks are a flat cotton wick woven with paper threads. The paper threads give the wick a rigid structure, so it is easy to handle and holds its shape when you place it in the jar or mould. Each wick comes pre-tabbed, and there is no zinc or other metals in the wick itself.
Choose a size by the diameter of your candle, in three ranges from 45 mm to 105 mm, and a pack of 20, 50, 100 or 250 wicks. Every wick is 150 mm long and ready to use.

How to Choose and Use
- Measure your candle. Measure the diameter of your jar, or of your mould at the widest point, and choose the matching size range.
- Fix the wick. Secure the tab to the centre of the base of the jar with a wick stickum or a dab of hot glue.
- Hold it straight. Keep the wick centred and upright while you pour, using a wick holder across the top of the jar.
- Pour. Pour your wax at its recommended pouring temperature and let the candle set undisturbed.
- Trim. Trim the wick to about 6 mm before the first burn.
- Burn test. Burn the candle fully and check the flame, melt pool and soot. Move up or down a size if needed.
ECO Wick Size Guide ▼
The diameters are a guide only. Wax, fragrance load, dye and container shape all change which wick works best, so test.
| Size | Suggested candle diameter |
|---|---|
| Small | 45–70 mm |
| Medium | 75–90 mm |
| Large | 90–105 mm |
If your candle sits between two ranges, test the smaller first and move up if the melt pool is too shallow.
Tips & Troubleshooting ▼
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Tunnelling or a shallow melt pool | Wick too small for the jar | Move up a size range |
| Large flame, soot or a mushrooming wick | Wick too large, or too long | Move down a size range and trim to about 6 mm |
| Flame drowns or keeps going out | Wick too small, or too much fragrance or dye | Move up a size, or reduce the fragrance or dye |
| Wick leaning or off-centre | Not held in place while the wax set | Use a wick holder and a stickum |
| Different result in a new wax | Every wax and fragrance burns differently | Test again with each new combination |
Safety & Selling Your Products ▼
Wicks are for candle making. Keep out of reach of children. Molten wax can burn badly: never heat it over a direct flame, never leave it unattended and do not use water on a wax fire. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep candles away from children, pets, draughts and anything flammable. Trim the wick before each burn and stop using a candle when about 10 mm of wax is left in the container.
Burn test every combination of wax, fragrance, dye and container before you sell or gift candles, because small changes can change how a wick performs.
Selling your candles? Wicks are a raw material for makers. Wick selection, burn testing, labelling and any regulatory requirements for your finished candles are your responsibility. Contact us at info@purefx.co.nz if you need product information.
