Castor Bean Oil (Hexane-Free, Thick Conditioning Oil)

Castor Bean Oil is a thick, pale, expeller-pressed oil extracted from the seeds of the castor plant without the use of solvents like hexane. Its unusual fatty acid profile — dominated by ricinoleic acid — gives it a rich, humectant-like quality that has made it a long-standing staple in traditional skin and hair care, as well as in balms, soaps and cosmetic formulations.

Its low molecular weight lets it penetrate easily, while its thick, glossy texture makes it a popular addition to lip balms, soaps and hair oil blends. With a comedogenic rating of 1, it is generally well suited to most skin types when blended with lighter carrier oils.

Apply a few drops directly to skin or hair, massaging gently until absorbed — often blended with a lighter carrier oil given its thick consistency. For formulations, blend into balms, soaps or hair treatments. This product is intended for external use only and is not intended for ingestion.

Botanical Name: Ricinus communis (Castor) Seed Oil.

Safety information: generally well tolerated on normal skin, though anyone with a known allergy to Ricinus communis should avoid use, and contact dermatitis, while uncommon, is a documented reaction. This product is for external use only and is not intended for ingestion. A patch test is recommended before first use — see the Safety Data Sheet and Ingredient & Allergen Statement in the Product Documents section below for full detail.
