Basil Essential Oil
Basil Essential Oil
Basil Essential Oil (Ocimum basilicum)
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is steam-distilled from the leaves and tops of the plant, producing a pale yellow to amber liquid with a fresh, herbaceous, sweet-spicy aroma valued in both aromatherapy and traditional herbal remedies.
It's traditionally diffused to sharpen mental clarity and combat fatigue, with a reviving, uplifting character that helps clear and strengthen the mind.
In skincare, a few drops added to a facial steam or massage blend can help stimulate a sluggish complexion and improve circulation.
Long used in herbal remedies, Basil is liberating and clearing, easing mental strain with its warm, spicy-sweet fragrance and balsamic undertone.

Usage & Formulation Guide ▼
For soap makers, natural perfumers and cosmetic formulators. These are starting points, not finished formulas — always confirm compliance, stability and safety (including IFRA usage limits) for your own finished product before use.
Focus & clarity diffuser blend
Combine equal parts Basil, Bergamot and Rosemary for an uplifting, mentally-stimulating aromatherapy blend.
Massage/body oil
Keep to a standard 1–2% dilution in a carrier oil, in line with general aromatherapy practice.
Perfumery
Works as a top-to-mid note modifier in herbaceous, green compositions — pairs naturally with the citrus and floral oils already in its blend list above (bergamot, clary sage, geranium).
Cold process soap
A typical starting rate is 3% to 5% of total oil weight, in line with common practice for essential oils in soap. Some Basil oils are naturally higher in methyl chavicol (estragole), which carries its own IFRA leave-on restriction — check the applicable category limit before finalising a percentage for any leave-on formulation.
