(And Why It’s Completely Normal)
If you’ve noticed your oils becoming cloudy, thick, or even forming small particles during colder months, you’re not alone. This is a completely natural process and nothing to be concerned about.
Many carrier oils, particularly those rich in natural fatty acids, will begin to change in appearance when exposed to lower temperatures. Oils such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, and even some blends can become cloudy or partially solidify when the temperature drops.
This happens because certain components within the oil start to solidify at cooler temperatures. It’s very similar to how coconut oil turns solid in winter and melts again when warmed. The clarity and texture of the oil may change, but the quality and performance remain the same.
Cloudiness does not mean the oil has gone off or is unsafe to use. It is simply a physical reaction to temperature. Once the oil is gently warmed back to room temperature, it will return to its normal clear liquid state.
To restore your oil, place the bottle in a warm room or sit it in a bowl of warm water for a short period of time. Avoid using direct heat such as microwaves, as this can damage the oil and reduce its quality.
Proper storage can help minimise these changes. Keeping your oils in a stable, room temperature environment and away from cold drafts will help maintain consistency. However, during winter, some cloudiness is completely expected and unavoidable.
At PureFX, we supply high-quality cosmetic-grade oils that retain their integrity even when temperatures fluctuate. Changes in appearance are a sign of the natural composition of the oil, not a fault.
You can continue to use your oils as normal, confident that their performance and benefits remain unchanged.
