Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita)
Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita) is steam distilled from the leaves of the plant, producing a clear to pale yellow liquid with a refreshing, sharp, strongly minty aroma and a deep balsamic-sweet undertone. It's one of the most widely used oils in aromatherapy, valued for its cooling, energising character.
In aromatherapy, Peppermint is popular for supporting mental clarity and concentration, and for its refreshing, uplifting effect during moments of fatigue. It's a favourite in diffusers and vapor blends, especially when an invigorating, wide-awake atmosphere is the goal.
On the skin, well-diluted Peppermint is valued for its cooling sensation, and is a popular addition to massage oils, balms and after-sun blends aimed at tired muscles and overheated skin.
A little care goes a long way: Peppermint Essential Oil is a skin and eye irritant and may cause an allergic skin reaction, so always dilute before topical use and patch test first. Because of its high menthol content, it should not be used near the face of infants or children under approximately 2.5 years of age.
